Edinburgh Fringe 2025 Round-up
English Cabaret's Fringe home this year was at the Central Quaker Meeting House, alias C alto. Perched on the picturesque Victoria Terrace, looking down on the bunting and brightly coloured shops of Victoria Street, (reputedly the inspiration for Dargon Alley), and a step away from both the International Festival Hub and the street theatre of the Royal Mile, we felt right at the centre of the summer bustle.
Our first show, playing over the opening weekends was Lily's I Heart Musicals. This year from a century of song she made a very personal choice for what she called her 'cathartic cabaret' illustrating, through what one EdFringe reviewer called 'a nice mix of musicals' her belief in the power of musicals to change the world. She was chosen to feature in C ARTS season showcase, and her performance there, along with others filmed during her run are available to see via her own YouTube Channel and Instagram feed. We're also sharing highlights at English Cabaret - visit for a flavour of her very popular show.
Lily's cabaret was inspired by her time performing in Dreams of Peace & Freedom, which opened at the beginning of Week 2 in the same space as her own. The first performance played to an invited audience of human rights activists, educationalists, faith groups, reviewers and even an MSP - Ben Macpherson. You can read a collection of the responses from the fortnight's run, and see some production photos on our sister site Songs of the People.
English Cabaret is now counting down the final 50 days of ECHR75's anniversary year, with more performances of Dreams of Peace & Freedom in the offing. Visit our Linktree for all the details of our Autumn of Remembrance schedule.
