Sue Casson is interviewed for the Katherine Mansfield Society Newsletter

Shortly after this year’s Katherine Mansfield Society conference, writer Sue Casson was invited to talk about her show Two Tigers, with their newsletter editor Douglas Bence. Two Tigers is a musical which explores the life and writing of New Zealand born modernist Mansfield, and her lifelong love affair with English publisher John Middleton Murry, who ensured her legacy.

The musical was first written and staged for the centenary of Mansfield's birth in 1988. It was shortlisted for the PRS Vivian Ellis Prize, (the first selected to be written by a woman) garnering praise and encouragement from panellists Tim Rice, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Don Black.

As the centenary of Mansfield’s death approaches in 2023, Casson is in the process of reimagining her original show a lifetime on, with a view to a brand-new staging next year. She is documenting her re-think, and discovery of new scholarship about Mansfield in a fortnightly blog available on her website – Mansfield Musings.

The interview will be published this Autumn in the forthcoming edition of the Katherine Mansfield Society newsletter.
